Ward 24

A map of Ottawa Ward 24, Barrhaven East on a grey background, with a few notable streets highlights in yellow.

We acknowledge Ottawa, including Barrhaven, is built upon unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people, who are the traditional custodians and guardians of the land and water.

Introducing Ward 24, Barrhaven East

As our community continues to grow, the city periodically reviews ward boundaries to ensure all residents receive a fair amount of representation at city council.

Ward 24, Barrhaven East was created out of that consideration, as the projected growth south of the Jock River, as well as in Riverside South and Findlay Creek meant new residents would become underrepresented in the previous two-ward arrangement.

Clockwise from Greenbank/Fallowfield, our ward boundary runs along Fallowfield Road, the Via Rail tracks, Woodroffe Avenue, northern property lines of Davidson Heights and the South Merivale Business Park, the Greenbelt boundary, the Rideau River, the Jock River, Longfields Drive, Strandherd Drive, and Greenbank Avenue.

At just under 20 square kilometres, our ward’s 2022 population is an estimated 52,580 and includes the following neighbourhoods:

Chapman Mills

Red car parked in front of some stacked rowhouses.

Davidson Heights

Detached houses to the left of a street bend, and townhouses to the right of the same bend.

Havenlea

A community gateway sign in front of some houses.

Hearts Desire

Three lawn chairs look out on the Jock River at dusk. There is a rock with "enjoy the view" written on between two of the chairs.

Knollsbrook

A row of detached houses facing a park behind some trees.

Longfields

Two cyclists on a residential street in front of a heritage farmstead surrounded by newer houses.

Rideau Glen

Winding Way

Very large houses behind front yard fencing.

Outside the ward

Barrhaven East only recently found stability after decades of constant growth. With few opportunities for new development, our ward is unique locally, as most of our growth pressures come from Ward 3, Barrhaven West and Ward 22, Riverside South-Findlay Creek.

As your councillor, I will work closely with wards 3 and 22 to ensure our newfound stability is not overcome by pressures caused by the explosive growth that continues in those wards. I will also work with other neighbouring councillors to ensure existing challenges we face with solutions based outside Ward 24 will not be overlooked.
